Endovision's Engineer:
Hoang Phan

Guided by personal history and professional purpose, Hoang Phan channels 25 years of engineering experience into developing life-saving technologies and supporting humanitarian-driven innovation.

Hoang Phan was born in Vietnam in 1976, shortly after the conclusion of the Vietnam War. His father, who had supported American forces during the conflict, endured seven years in a communist re-education camp before being released. In 1991, Hoang and his family immigrated to the U.S. under a humanitarian resettlement program led by a nonprofit organization – an act of generosity that profoundly shaped his commitment to paying forward the opportunities he was given.

Hoang earned his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from UC Santa Barbara in 1998 and has since dedicated over 25 years to medical device innovation. His career has been driven by a dual purpose: advancing engineering solutions and leveraging his skills to support mission-driven organizations, inspired by the nonprofit that helped his family rebuild their lives.

Among his key collaborations has been his 15-year partnership with Dr. Binmoeller, beginning at Xlumena, where Hoang contributed to the design of critical GI devices, including the Axios Stent. Now, after working with seven startups, Hoang is directing his expertise toward Endovision's nonprofit mission:

  1. Advancing endoscopic technology to cure digestive tract cancers and life-threatening diseases.

  2. Promoting physician-driven, patient-centered innovation free from commercial bias.

  3. Educating the public on early detection to save lives.

Recognizing Hoang's engineering acumen and shared dedication to humanitarian impact, Endovision has formalized an agreement for him to dedicate 50% of his time to product development under Dr. Binmoeller's guidance. Together, they aim to accelerate breakthrough devices that address unmet clinical needs, honoring Hoang's personal journey by transforming adversity into hope for patients worldwide.
