Innovation with a Purpose

For more than two decades, Dr. Kenneth Binmoeller's clinical practice has driven innovations designed to make advanced endoscopic treatment more effective, less invasive, and more accessible.

The Physician as Inventor

Dr. Binmoeller identifies problems through everyday clinical practice and develops technologies and techniques to address them.

The clinical problem leads to an idea. The idea leads to engineering. Engineering leads to proof of concept. Proof of concept leads to patient impact.

Dr. Binmoeller has more than 50 patents for novel endoscopic technologies.

Mission Statements

Develop novel break-through techniques, procedures and devices that will prevent or treat digestive tract disease.

Conduct prospective outcomes studies to quantify the benefit of new techniques, procedures and devices on patient outcomes (including avoiding more invasive procedures and improved quality of life) and cost of health care.

Promote the integration of cutting-edge endoscopic care with the latest advances in nutritional and life-style strategies to defeat digestive tract disease

The Innovation Portfolio

A history of physician-driven innovation spanning devices, techniques, and technologies at various stages of development

Commercialized

AXIOS™ Lumen-Apposing Metal Stent

Dr. Binmoeller founded Xlumena around a portfolio of inventions for EUS-guided transluminal therapy. Xlumena was acquired by Boston Scientific in 2015, enabling global commercialization of the AXIOS™ lumen-apposing metal stent. This is one of the clearest examples of an Endovision-originated clinical idea becoming a widely commercialized medical technology.

Established

EUS-Guided Transluminal Therapy

Dr. Binmoeller's work in therapeutic EUS helped develop new approaches to accessing and treating structures through the gastrointestinal tract, including transluminal access, EUS-guided biliary drainage, EUS-guided cholecyst-enterostomy, and EUS-guided gastro-jejunostomy.

Established

EUS-Guided Coil & Glue Therapy

Dr. Binmoeller's innovations include EUS-guided coil and glue therapy, including treatment approaches for gastric varices. This work was specifically recognized in connection with his 2026 Rudolf Schindler Award.

Established

Underwater Endoscopy

Dr. Binmoeller developed and advanced water-aided / "underwater" endoscopic techniques, making difficult endoscopic procedures more effective and accessible. Endeau Inc. was created to develop devices and techniques for water-aided endoscopic procedures.

Established

Endoscopic Resection & Organ Preservation

Dr. Binmoeller has been a pioneer and educator in removing cancerous and precancerous growths endoscopically while preserving healthy anatomy. This includes EMR, ESD, resection of submucosal tumors, and treatment of dysplastic Barrett's esophagus — part of the larger evolution of advanced endoscopy.

Development

EndoSphere™ / SatiSphere™

EndoSphere was created around a group of patents designed to enable physiologic treatment of obesity and metabolic disease. The SatiSphere duodenal implant is identified by Endovision as having entered clinical trials.

Development

KBSolutions

KBSolutions was founded to develop a novel endoscopic tissue closure device — another example of Dr. Binmoeller's broader portfolio of device innovation.

Development

Endoscopic Access, Anchoring & Delivery

Dr. Binmoeller's patent portfolio includes concepts for tissue anchoring, luminal structure anchoring, stent deployment across adjacent tissue layers, transluminal access, needle-guided interventions, tissue sampling, and endoscopic device deployment.

The Philosophy Behind the Inventions

01

Novel

Meeting a need not adequately addressed by current technology.

02

Simple

Technically straightforward and intuitive.

03

Easy

Designed to be learnable and usable without unnecessary specialized complexity.

04

Cost Effective

Endoscopic therapy should offer advantages compared with more invasive treatment pathways where appropriate.

From AXIOS™ to What Comes Next

Past

AXIOS™

The original breakthrough that changed therapeutic endoscopy.

Present

Regenerative Endoscopy

Exploring biologic delivery for tissue repair.

Next

Next-Generation AXIOS™

A new development inspired by the original.

Future

New Physician-Driven Technologies

Continuing the model of clinical insight to patient impact.

Next-Generation AXIOS™ is a new development inspired by the experience of the original AXIOS™ — not the same device.
